NEAT partners conducted an online questionnaire survey to assess current and future needs and expectations of people using EAH. The survey that covered 35 countries among which 26 were European revealed that education in EAH is inconsistently offered by the different educational institutions surveyed and does not only depend upon the country considered. There is no harmonization between the different curricula and limited exchanges to run or promote them. The survey also highlighted a clear demand for further education opportunities in topics such as the economic impacts of animal diseases and the support to public or sector level decision making. In the future, the majority of respondents believed the needs were going to increase.
These results combined with the material made available through the contacts of NEAT partners, as well as the outcomes of the different working groups conducted during the first annual meeting that took place in London last September – will help inform the development of teaching material and innovative teaching tools. The latter will be tailored to the different stakeholder needs depending on their main use of economics in daily professional activities and should contribute to their education with relevant skills to tackle modern challenges.
